| Description | The Cicadas - A Novel By Shawn Penning. The Cicadas, a suspense novel, opens with the main character, Sara Parker, in the office of a hypnotherapist trying to sort out the confusion that has led her to prison, accused of murdering her husband. Sara recalls the perfect anniversary date with Tom Parker, a romantic dinner in her backyard forest and also describes her unreasonable fear of the cicadas, the tiny buzzing insects in trees. Disaster strikes the next morning and Tom struggles to survive after a car accident leaves him paralyzed and depressed. Eventually, Sara discovers that she has been the victim of repeated abductions and violations, and that one of the visitors, a very nice-looking mostly-human man, has taken an interest in her. The man tries to help Sara, but also wants to become romantically involved with her. She struggles to resist his affections because she loves her husband but must flee with the man to avoid being taken again by the visitors. Although the human-alien man is an expert among his race when it comes to earth culture, he still has much to learn about human love. Sara tries to teach him, while at the same time resisting his charms. In the climax, there is confusion and bullets are fired into both men. |
